After the Fire: Domaine des Érables

An information meeting was held Tuesday for all tenants affected by the fire at the Domaine des Érables apartment complex on Maple street in Chateauguay.

The team representing the ownership of the buildings were present to give information on their post fire findings, plans and the present state of affairs, giving as many answers as they could to the many tenants’ questions.

Having just spoke to the administrative representative of 129 and 131 Maple, it is possible that starting as early as next week, the administrative representatives of the buildings will begin contacting lessees in order to begin the final process of documenting and collecting their personal effects, possessions and furniture from the affected apartments.

The administrators hope to implement a more comprehensive tenant notification system in the upcoming week or so.

Specific plans for additional communication measures will be announced at a later time.

Notification for "personal effects removal" will be issued to tenants in an appropriate delay based upon structural safety and other issues.

A communications protocol should be implemented by next week.

Due to the traumatic experience lived by residents during and after the tragic fire, fact remains that certain affected tenants of 129 Maple may feel incapable or not wanting to remain or return to their present apartments, therefore tenants of 131 Maple are likely to be given priority in moving to any upcoming vacancies. Repossession of the apartments in the 131 building could take up to 6 months or more. Present lessees may choose to discuss the option of moving or cancelling their leases with the admin.

Insurance adjusters/tenants/representatives are asked call the Domaine des Érables apartments management to confirm dates / notice prior to their planned evaluative visits.

A rent associated credit could be issued to fire victims for the week covering the week of March 24 through the 31st. Contact the admin for confirmation for all specifics in regard to credits, adjustments and post fire information.

For specific details given during the meeting or in order to facilitate requests and schedule arrangements by tenants or their representatives, those affected should call the admin at Domaine des Érables, at 450-699-8253.

The Chateauguay Civitan Club is still collecting money, furniture, household items and clothing. Donations and collections are in progress and will continue for the remainder of this week -

Thoughts of great appreciation go out to the Red Cross, friends, family, groups, organizations, businesses, and community members of Chateauguay (and beyond) for their continued involvement and attempts to lessen the impact that this tragic fire has made on the residents of Domaine des Érables.

We will post any upcoming information as it becomes available.
