An overnight fire forced the evacuation of approximately 200 tenants of the "Domaine Erable" Apartments in Chateauguay.
Many were assisted by the Red Cross as they took refuge at the high school HS billings.
Althought the actual cause of the fire is not known, it was reported that the fire "may" have begun in the basement.
The fire was finally extinguished at around 5am this morning.
Firefighters remained on scene throughout the night, and into the morning hours as the investigation continued.
Final tally of damages are not know thus far.
There were no serious injuries other than smoke inhalation related issues.
This tragic fire left approx. 200 homeless.
More information on how you can help those affected by the fire will be posted later.
For now you can perhaps contact the Montéregie chapter of the Red Cross at 1 800 363-7305.
