Prince Harry announced today that Toronto has been awarded the title of "Host City" for the 2017 Invictus Games.
The first Invictus Games were held in London in 2014 and this year's 2016 event will be held in Orlando, Florida from May 8 to 12.
These games use the power of sport to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and generate a wider understanding and respect for wounded, injured and sick Servicemen and women.
The Toronto hosting of the Invictus Games is slated for September 2017, which shall coincide with Canada's 150th anniversary of Confederation.
“The Invictus Games in Toronto will have more competitors, more participating nations and more sports than ever before,”
“It will even involve competing on ice, because this is Canada after all.” said Prince Harry.
Mayor John Tory released a statement saying “The City of Toronto is looking forward to welcoming the Invictus Games in 2017. Sport has the unique power to change lives. The service men and women who participate in these Games deserve to be honoured and Toronto is proud to be the stage on which they will stand as they step into the world spotlight."
