Your pharmacist can now offer you 7 new services thanks to the finalization of negotiations yesterday between the Quebec Health Ministry and the Quebec Order of Pharmacists (in regard to Bill 41).
The goal of the implementation of these new services is to lessen the strain on local medical clinics and hospital emergency rooms.
As of Saturday they can now:
Extend a prescription or adjust it (offer alternative therapeutic substitution of a prescription drug in case of drug interaction issues or of a supply shortages)
Administer medication for instruction of proper use (like insulin etc.)
Perform assessments to prescribe medication for 'known' minor conditions ( like dermatological issues and other)
Perform assessments to prescribe medication when no diagnosis is needed (like birth control, diarrhea, etc..)
Order and interpret laboratory tests (if person has no GP or cannot access their own the pharmacist can now order blood tests for you).
Minimal FEES may be incurred but it is NOT clear who will pay- RAMQ or your insurance.
