Kanehsatà:ke - Interrupts Hydro-Québec 'Smart Meter' Plans

The Mohawk community of Kanehsatà:ke's Chief Serge Simon was said to have 'interrupted' Hydro-Québec's planned work in regard to the now controversial 'Smart Meters' on the Mohawk Territory according to a report by Radio-Canada earlier today.

Hydro-Québec workers were apparently advised to leave the Kanehsatà:ke community by Grand Chief Serge Simon.

Chief Simon was said to have informed the workers that there were men of the community who were looking for them - so it was said that the Hydro workers reportedly left the territory without delay.

Kanehsatà:ke is a Kanien'kéha:ka Mohawk Territory on the shore of the Lake of Two Mountains near Oka, Québec.

The Kanehsatà:ke Band Council are said to have concerns about potential safety issues, security and unknown potential health related sensitivities to 'Polluants' and the controversial "Smart Meters'.

They have given notice to Hydro Québec to refrain for installing any of these meters at this time.

They have also made a request for an independent study on the potential impact due to implementation of these devices.

According to a reported statement by Hydro-Québec, they indeed plan to meet with Kanehsatà:ke's community council to further discuss the issues.

Calls to the Hydro office of Kahnawà:ke were attempted today in order to find out about their 'policy' or plans for implementation of these meters in our neighboring community, but they 'could not' definitively answer our inquiry and referred us to the Head Office of Hydro.

We were unable to reach anyone for comment at the time of publication.
