A massive fire is presently burning at the The Kruger Beauharnois Recycling Plant, at 61 Boulevard de Melocheville, in Beauharnois.
8 Fire Departements from surrounding towns are on site, and the flames can been seen for kilomteters around.
The fire started around 1 a.m. this morning.
Highways 132, 236, and Chemin Saint Louis are CLOSED in the area.
A Freight Train that is carrying some propane filled cars is said to be parked on the tracks near the fire, but Firefighters are reported to be keeping a close control on that area.
The Beauharnois Warehouse is a satellite processing centre where:
Paper and plastic are baled;
Confidential documents, such as books, clothing and branded articles, are destroyed;
Recovered plastics are managed;
Wood pallets are ground and sorted;
Items are transhipped;
Queen rolls are stored; and
Vital supplies for their mills are strategically stored inside and outside.
The 65,000-square-foot warehouse, is on grounds covering more than 275,000 square feet, and is said to be a total loss due to the inferno.
Cause of the fire remains unkown at this time.
