Info Via: MTQ and Ville de Chateauguay website-
The Ministry of Transportation of Quebec announced that major repair work of the Arthur Laberge Bridge will begin the week of August 18th, 2014.
This work, lasting almost 11 months, will result in the complete closure of of the bridge, effective on the night of 18 to 19 August (Monday to Tuesday).
Nature of works
The Ministry of Transport will need to completely rebuild the structure except for the piers and the abutments that will be modified and repaired. Thier goal is to “promote safer travel” and will result in two wider lanes, two shoulders, a sidewalk on the north side of the bridge as well as a two-way bike path located on the south side of the bridge.
To avoid long-term impact on the population, some work requested by the City of Châteauguay has been additionally integrated into the project.
There will be demolition of the roundabout, redevelopment of the ‘floor section’ to ‘separate rue Principale to western approach to the bridge’, and the installation of traffic lights for pedestrians and cyclists on the side of the bridge.
Traffic Management
Throughout the construction period, there will be closing of Salaberry North eastbound (towards Blvd. D’Anjou) between St Francis and rue Principale. Local traffic will be permitted, and a walkway for pedestrians and cyclists will be installed.
Some partial closures at the bridge approach, from rue Principale and boulevards Salaberry North and D’Anjou westbound, are also planned. Press releases will be sent in due course to inform the public of partial barriers that may be needed for different phases of the work.
Shuttle service
To keep pedestrians and cyclists on either side of the two banks, a free shuttle service is offered at a rate of one out of every hour. The schedule will be the following passages: Sunday to Thursday from 8 am to 22 pm and Friday and Saturday from 8 pm to midnight.
