Do you know that if you own a dog on Chateauguay territory, you are required to purchase a license every year starting May 1st.
At the low cost of $14.00 per year, this dog tag will help ensure that your animal be returned to you if it strays. If you do not purchase a dog license you run the risk of incurring a fine. All monies collected by the sale of the licenses, will help fund the services of the Non Profit AMR Refuge and rescue organization who are contracted for animal welfare services in Chateauguay.
AMR is based in Saint Constant, and offers a multitude of services for pets and wildlife in our region.
Their mission is as follows:
• Ensuring the welfare of stray animals unclaimed and / or abandoned.
(Reuniting pets with their owners)
• Encourage people to report when they see cases of animal cruelty.
• Raise awareness and inform people so they can offer all necessary care for their pets.
• Encourage the adoption and sterilization of pets.
They also have a special program to encourage citizens to adopt older animals who are also in desperate need of loving homes.

The ChateauguayCitizen.com spoke to representatives at the AMR refuge and were very impressed with their determination to educate the population on good pet ownership and the welfare of animals.
Did you know that when trying to assist stray or lost animals, the first contact you should make is the Chateauguay police @ 450-698-1331. The police will document the event and explain about how to contact the AMR as per your individual inquiry.
The AMR refuge accept these calls 24 hours per day to secure a lost, stray or injured animal.
When an animal has been picked up by the organization it is then brought to the refuge in saint cost of. If the animal is wearing his tags and the AMR will identify and contact the owner that is documented upon sale of the license. The AMR will also check to see if the animal has been microchipped.
